The Football Cardinals took a 14-10 halftime deficit against the Brunswick Blue Devils and scored 29 unanswered 2nd half points to take them to the state championship game next week! Final score … Mentor 39 – Brunswick 14. The Cards are heading back to Fawcett Stadium in Canton next weekend to face the St. Xavier Bombers (ranked 2nd in the country per Sports Illustrated). It’s the second year in a row that the Cards will be returning to the premier event. In order to get there, it took great efforts by both the offense and defense to knock off a previously undefeated Brunswick team (now 13-1). The Cards scoring came from a Kevin Harper 24 yard field goal … Bart Tanski to Steve Orkis for a 16 yard TD … Tanski to Mike Popelas for a 7 yard score … Tanski to Cory Zikesch for a 9 yard TD … Tom Worden ran a 15 yard score … Mike Pearce ran a 5 yard TD … and the Mentor defense scored on a safety. We’re heading back to the show and the entire of city of Mentor is invited. Stay tuned for details on tickets for the championship game to be played next Saturday, December 1st. GO CARDS!
