When an unconverted sinner is confronted with God’s perspective of his sinfulness¹, the Holy Spirit of God convinces him that his “goodness” is worth absolutely nothing². That Spirit-induced realization causes him to look to the only One³ who can save him from the eternal punishment⁴ he deserves. When he turns⁵ from his sinfulness to trust⁶ the Lord Jesus Christ as his only hope for salvation, God instantaneously transforms⁷ him. That transformation affects the new believer in such a way that he desires to live differently⁸. This is the clearest sign that someone has truly been born again.
