During my preparation to teach the adult Sunday School class at Middlefield Bible Church, I came across one of my favorite passages in Scripture. While the selection may surprise some, everyone who has experienced the new birth will understand why these are so special.
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Regardless of the details of my sinful past or your own, through the once-for-all sacrifice of Christ on the cross each believer is washed of his sins, set apart as holy for God’s use, and justly considered righteous before God. No sins are too great for God to forgive and no sinner is too dirty to cleanse. This is the power of the precious blood of Christ.
And all God’s people said, “Amen!”
