I was reviewing chapter three of The Disciplined Life by Richard S. Taylor this evening and came across a good quotation. (Forgive me if I’m repeating myself.) Taylor points out that even discipline must be brought under submission to God’s purposes in our lives. For instance, if you had a late night meeting, were sick, or had some unexpected roof repairs, must you still rise early in the morning for your personal devotion time with God? Or could you rearrange your schedule and still be a disciplined person? Taylor’s words are excellent.
God’s dispensations of grace are not confined to 5 o’clock in the morning.
If you’ve ever struggled with self-control, you probably understand that statement. You can feel guilty about not accomplishing the discipline goal despite the fact that you have a valid excuse. That is very helpful.
