Ever hear someone say that? The idea seems to be that you should do your wild living while you’re young and irresponsible. Then when you are older and wiser, you should settle down and live with more restraint. Unfortunately, the law of the boomerang comes into play: what you sow you will also reap. That came to mind this morning as I read Proverbs 22:8.
He who sows iniquity will reap sorrow.
The sad reality is that those who sow their wild oats while they are young will reap the results when they are older. Bad habits don’t disappear when you get married and start a family. Instead, they reward you with pain, frustration, and sorrow.
I remember hearing two testimonies during college. One young man spoke with his head down regarding his early life before meeting Christ. He was ashamed of the life he had lived and wished he could go back and change it. A young woman spoke next about how glad she was to have kept herself pure for the Lord. She said it had been difficult, but she wouldn’t trade the results for anything.
Keep that in mind.
