God’s Purpose for Me

For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly,
But the haughty he knows from afar.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life;
You stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And your right hand delivers me.
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me;
Your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Psalm 168:6-8 ESV

As I read this psalm this morning, I was encouraged to find two principles about my relationship with God:

1. Almighty God works with humble people.
2. Almighty God will accomplish his purpose in my life.

Isn’t it amazing that the Almighty Creator and Sustainer of the Universe is willing to have a relationship with us? With his incredible perfections, he has no need of us and yet he wants to know us! That is an amazing truth. When we humble ourselves before his perfect character, he enables us to approach him, know him, and enjoy a relationship with him through the Lord Jesus Christ (more details here). Humility, therefore, must be our first concern. But God doesn’t stop there. For those with whom he has developed this relationship, he also has a purpose. I find that encouraging to know. Despite the failures and difficulties in our lives, God not only wants to know us, but is actively working in our lives to accomplish the purpose he has designed for us. We may not always know the specifics of that plan, but as we read the Bible, he will guide us. I hope that these truths encourage you today. As you walk through the events of today, be encouraged to know that Almighty God wants to know you and wants to accomplish his plan through your life.
